HOWARD A. MOSTER, CPP, CRM, CFE
Howard
Moster is the Senior Partner of Practical Protection Associates Inc. which
provides Security Management and Physical Security consulting to all levels of
Government and many Fortune 500 companies throughout North America.
Prior
to his work with Practical Protection Associates, he held the positions of:
Corporate Security Advisor, The City of Edmonton; Director of Corporate
Security, Triple Five Corporation Ltd.; and Police Officer and Detective in
Cincinnati, Ohio.
Howard
is internationally recognized as an expert in Physical
Security and Executive Protection Profiles. He has designed programs and authored concepts and manuals
that have been adopted around the world. He
holds the professional designation of Certified Protection Professional (CPP),
is an active member of The American Society for Industrial Security, is the
Chairman of The International Standing Committee on Physical Security, holds a
certification in Risk Management (CRM) from Simon Fraser University and is a
Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
He
is a member of the Advisory Board, Security Management Certificate Program,
University of Alberta; a member of the Board of Directors PPM 2000 Inc., a
Security Management software firm; co-author of "Executive Family
Protection Profile", "Management Security Profile,” and "The
Managers Guide to Security Profiles", written several articles for
"Security Management," "Access Control,"
"Security," and "Security News Canada," instructed many
seminars for ASIS, The University of Alberta, The University of Calgary, is a
graduate of The National Crime
Prevention Institute, and holds a Certificate in Model-Netics Management from
The University of Cincinnati with a background in Engineering.
He has been Chairman of The American Society for Industrial Security’s Edmonton Chapter; achieved International Chapter of The Year, served on the Advisory Board of the Grant MacEwan College’s Security Science Program; instructed at Grant MacEwan College; and held memberships in The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners and The Ohio Crime Prevention Association.
Allan Altheim is a Security System Consultant with Practical Protection Associates Inc., specializing in preventive security methods using electronic security. He has an extensive background in Access Control, Closed Circuit Television and Intrusion Systems. Fifteen years have been achieved in system engineering and design, implementation and project management with electronic countermeasures.
Allan
is a member of a recognized group of security professionals who have the
Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation. This certification attests
to an individual’s mastery of the body of security knowledge through job
experience and academic study. In addition to completion of a recognized
Electronic Technology Program, he has successfully completed courses in Basic
and Advanced Closed Circuit Television Design, Card Access System Design,
Communication Protocol and System Integration.
Further
accreditation has been obtained in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
(CPTED) and Rational Project Management (Kepner-Tregoe Inc.).
Allan is a member of the American Society for Industrial Security and is Technology Chairman for the Edmonton/Northern Alberta Chapter.
TOM COOPER, CMA, B. COMM. - Associate
Tom
is a professional accountant and senior level consultant who has delivered a
wide range of consulting services to clients in many businesses and industries
including Government, Utilities, Transportation, Post Secondary Education,
Development, and Recreation.
Consulting
assignments include operational and organizational reviews, strategic management
and policy development, business process improvement reviews, economic and
financial feasibility studies, information systems planning and development,
internal control reviews and cash handling systems design and implementation and
various multi-disciplinary projects.
Most
recently Tom provided consulting services as a manager with KPMG.
Prior to this Tom provided consulting services on an associate basis with
Ernst & Young, Performance Group, and Cooper Group Inc.
In
addition to providing consulting services Tom served eight years as a senior
manager with the City of Edmonton where he was responsible for financial
management, human resources, materials management, computer systems and security
services. Prior to this Tom served
for ten years as a controller and head of Studies and Budgets for a major
Municipal Department. Tom's career
also includes five years as a Senior Auditor with the Office of the Auditor
General of Alberta.
CLIFFORD E. DOW, CPP, CFE - Associate
Clifford
Dow is the Owner and General Manager of Dow Consulting & Investigations, a
company that provides Security Consulting and Investigation Services to
Corporations, and expert witness testimony.
Mr. Dow has over thirty years of related experience providing security
services to all levels of business in the United States. Prior to founding Dow
Consulting & Investigations, he held positions of Corporate Security
Director for Toyota Motor Sales, USA, with responsibility for Lexus, Toyota
Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC), and Toyota Logistic Services.
Mr. Dow was also the Manager of Corporate Investigations for Krout &
Schneider, which is California’s largest and oldest private investigation firm
providing services for major corporations throughout the western United States.
Mr. Dow was also the Vice President & General Manager for
International Security Services, which provided security guard services to many
of the finest high-rise commercial multi-tenet buildings in downtown Los
Angeles. Mr. Dow was opening
Director of Security for two Marriott Hotels in California.
One of which is Marriott’s premier resort Desert Springs in Palm
Desert, California. Mr. Dow was
both a Policeman and Detective for the Los Angeles Police Department for 14
years.
Mr.
Dow earned the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and the Certified Fraud
Examiner (CFE) designations. Mr.
Dow has been a member of the Professional Certification Board (PCB) of the
American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) for five years.
Mr. Dow currently serves as the Chair of the CPP Education Committee of
the PCB. Prior to that service, Mr.
Dow was Regional Vice-President for ASIS in Southern California and Nevada for
several years. Mr. Dow also served
as the Chapter Chairman for the San Fernando Valley Chapter of ASIS.
Mr. Dow was awarded the ASIS Certificate of Merit for service to the
society in 1995.
Mr.
Dow is recognized for his expertise in matters related to security management,
special event management and corporate investigations.
Mr. Dow has taught a variety of security issues at various specialized
security seminars over the years.
Mr. Dow has managed successful events from a corporate specialty event with 5,000 attendees to a multi-day rock concert with 350,000 attendees. Mr. Dow has extensive corporate security experience managing a variety of services. Mr. Dow has developed security systems, procedures and policies for a number of major Fortune 500 Corporations. Mr. Dow has also managed major investigations for a number of clients focused on white collar, fraud, and loss of sensitive information. Mr. Dow’s focus has always been determining the client’s security needs and developing a comprehensive plan to achieve those needs.
DENNIS D. SHEPP, CPP, CFE - Associate
Dennis has been a partner in Shepp Johnman Inc. since 1982, following law enforcement experience beginning in 1975.
Dennis lends specific expertise managing organizational knowledge and information systems. Strategic corporate alliances with several security software developers, has provided Dennis with experience and certification as a trainer for risk analysis and information management software. He also provides solutions toward security knowledge management.
He
graduated from the University of Alberta; Security Management program and is now
an instructor with the program and a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee.
He holds professional designations as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). Dennis
is an active member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS
International), and serves on the Professional Certification Board.
He is a member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and
the Canadian Society for Industrial Security (CSIS) where he achieved the
Accredited Security Professional (ASP) designation.
Dennis
is a founding partner of Investigations Canada, a national partnership of
independent investigative companies located across Canada, offering service in
every major Canadian city and throughout the world.
He is a graduate of the Advanced Scientific Content Analysis (SCAN) program, making him an accomplished interviewer and educator on interviewing and statements. He has personally managed numerous major investigative projects for various organizations, resulting in criminal convictions and significant recoveries. He is also an accomplished educator, trainer and group facilitator. Dennis has managed a number of security risk analysis projects in health care, gas utility companies, government agencies and businesses.

ROGER MASLEN, CPP, CFE - Associate
Roger joined Shepp Johnman and Associates
Investigations Inc,. in 1993 as Branch Manager and Senior Investigator of their
Calgary Office. He became a Partner in 1998. From 1988 to 1993 Roger was the
National Risk Manager for IKEA Canada. In this role he managed the Security,
Safety and Insurance Programs. He served with the Metropolitan Toronto Police
Force from 1977 to 1988.
In
his current role he is responsible for managing a team of Investigators that
conduct corporate investigations. These Investigations include Internal theft
and Fraud, Harassment, Conflict of Interest, Illegal Commissions, Personal
Background/ Profile and Surveillance. Roger
has experience giving evidence in all levels of court relating to Civil and
Criminal maters.
Roger attended Ryerson Polytechnic Institute, Business Administration Program, holds professional designations as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). He has received special training on Statement Analysis and Interrogation techniques. He is the Chairman of the Calgary Chapter of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and is a member of the University of Calgary Advisory Board for the Security Management Certificate Program. He speaks regularly at Mt. Royal College Security Program on the topic of Investigations.
R. NELSON OSTRUP, CPP, CFE - Associate
Nelson
Ostrup is a partner with Shepp Johnman Investigations Canada. In partnership
with Investigations Canada, Shepp Johnman Investigations Canada provides
Security Management Consulting and Investigative Services in all major centers
across Canada.
Nelson
Ostrup joined Shepp Johnman in 1986 after graduating from the Law Enforcement
Program at Lethbridge College and receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in
Criminal Justice from Houston State University. He holds professional
designations as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a Certified Fraud
Examiner (CFE). Nelson is an active
member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS International) and
the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
He holds
advanced certificates in REID Interview Techniques, Scientific Content Analysis
(SCAN), Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Investigation of
Major Arsons and Arson For Profit.
Nelson has
also completed certificate programs in Money Laundering, Total Quality
Management and Professional Investigations.
He has completed physical security surveys, risk assessments and developed and managed labor strike plans. Nelson has successfully completed major fraud and internal theft investigations resulting in criminal convictions and civil recoveries. He has also completed numerous sexual harassment, wrongful dismissal, trademark/patent investigations and in depth due diligence investigations.
BRYAN J. DUPLESSIS, CJL - Consultant
Bryan
Duplessis is a Security Locking and Procedures Consultant with Practical
Protection Associates Inc., with an extensive background in locking systems,
master key systems, electronic locking hardware and physical security
consulting. Bryan has over 36 years
experience in the industry and specializes in institutional/industrial physical
security systems, which includes design, administration and execution of major
projects.
Bryan
has achieved a Security Management Certificate from the University of Alberta,
and a Journeyman Locksmith Certificate from the Alberta Apprenticeship Board.
Over the years he has obtained several Hardware Security Manufacturers
proficiency certificates and is currently in the final stages of completing his
Door and Hardware Consultant designation.
He
is the Presiding Officer for Alberta Apprenticeship Board representing the
Locksmith trades. Bryan is a member
of the American Society of Industrial Security and is currently a Member of the
Technology Committee for the Edmonton/Northern Alberta Chapter.
Bryan is past president of the Professional Locksmith Association of Alberta, and has also served on the Board of the American Society of Industrial Security’s Edmonton Chapter.
